The System Architect will join our Systems Engineering team in Indianapolis, IN, as a senior member and Subject Matter Expert (SME) with the development of system level concepts and architectures for complex DoD systems. The System Architect guides the architecture, design, documentation, and verification of systems. The System Architect represents the Raytheon team in meetings or events with the Government as appropriate throughout the product lifecycle to ensure product integrity and effective integration with higher level system architectures. The System Architect provides direction and guidance to a cross-functional Raytheon team, ensuring clear understanding and proper implementation of the system architecture including all interfaces, signals, and message definition. The System Architect will support all phases of the development process including concept development, proposal writing, requirements, architecture documentation, design reviews, implementation, integration, verification and validation. The System Architect must leverage multiple skill sets in areas such as Defense Avionics, Missile Systems, RF applications, SW architecture, embedded computing, and networking.

Typical Duties

The System Architect will serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on system architectures and Model Based Systems Engineering methods. Responsibilities will include providing technical guidance to the development of system architectures and the documentation of those architectures using Model Based System Engineering tools. The System Architect will be capable of supporting all phases of the System Engineer life cycle, but will focus primarily on architecture development, SW architecture development and providing guidance on Model Based Systems Engineering.

Required Skills:

• Typically 10 years related experience in systems, software, or hardware engineering
• Experience developing and maintaining architectures for systems, software and/or products from initial concept to executable design
• Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering methods, tools and languages
• Experience with Architecture Frameworks such as DoDAF (or variants MODAF, UAF, etc.) TOGAF, Zachman, or FEAF.
• Experience using DOORS, Rhapsody, MagicDraw, or other requirements management and system architecture tools
• Excellent critical thinking and problem solving abilities
• Demonstrated sound ethical values built upon trust, respect, accountability, collaboration, and innovation.
• Must be a US Citizen with ability to obtain a DoD Secret level clearance

Desired Skills:

• Familiarity and exposure to digital engineering transformation activities and modern product development methods
• Experience on DoD Internal Research and Development (IRAD, Customer Research and Development (CRAD), Technical Demonstration (TD), System Development and Demonstration (SDD) or Engineering, Manufacturing, & Development (EMD) Programs
• Knowledge of Architecting Methods such as Raytheon Enterprise Architecture Process (REAP), Rational Unified Process (RUP) or The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF).
• Experience with DoD open systems architecture and protocols (FACE, SOSA, MOSA, etc.)
• Experience mentoring engineers of all grade levels.
• Experience with DoD development process
• Current/active DoD Secret level or higher clearance

Required Education:

Typically Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) degree program
