DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
The Houston Health Department is searching for a skilled individuals to perform varied professional administrative functions in the research, development, interpretation and implementation of the assigned department's fiscal and operational policies and procedures.
- Prepares, edits and revises correspondence, reports, and other documents.
- Prepares periodic and special reports; compiles information and maintains branch specific reference material.
- Assists as needed in producing public information documents, including preparing visual presentations and memos.
- Creates and maintains data tracking logs to ensure grant and departmental compliance.
- Plans and coordinates trainings and meetings for program staff.
- Interprets and disseminates administrative policies and procedural revisions for staff implementation.
- Serves as part of the public health crisis response strike team.
- Performs other duties as requested.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Liberal Arts, or a related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Three (3) years of administrative experience are required. Professional administrative experience may be substituted for the above education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
- Preference will be given to applicants who exhibit attention to details, ability to multi-task, analytical thinking, aptitude for creative thinking, positive attitude, and ability to quickly adapt to change.
- Prior experience in a fast-paced workplace is preferable.
- Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing with excellent analytical and organizational skills.
- Some working knowledge of medical coverage eligibility requirements.
- Must be able to use the computer to input/access information.
- Intermediate or higher knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook is essential
SELECTION/SKILLS TEST REQUIREMENTS
None, however, the Department may administer a skill assessment evaluation during application review and/or interview.

Pay Grade 20
SALARY INFORMATION GRANT FUNDED POSITION
Grants & Special funded positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, employee may be laid off or transferred. Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
